Shopping in Newmarket

Newmarket is blessed with a vibrant town centre with a mix of independents that will make your shopping experience extra special. Whether you are looking for something to wear for a day at the races, an outfit for outdoor pursuits or just a souvenir to remember your visit, our High Street offers something for everyone. In addition, we have some fabulous artists and stockists of specialised products tailored to the equine and outdoor lover.

The High Street is topped and tailed by the famed Gallops of Warren Hill at one end and the Rowley Mile and July Racecourses at the other, making two fantastic gateways into the town. With its rich history and heritage, the town has some impressive buildings displaying some wonderful architecture which provides the perfect backdrop for a day’s shopping.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the High Street hosts a lively market with a variety of stalls selling a range of goods. Along with the usual traditional wares, there are craft stalls along with some wonderful street food offerings. With an array of seating and the spacious Memorial Gardens nearby, there are plenty of spaces to sit and relax and watch the world go by.

There is always a buzz in town on a racing day and men in suits and women in their finery certainly add some vibrancy and colour. With so many well-known faces, you never know you might spot and of course horses feature prominently! Whilst they don’t actually walk through the main shopping areas, you don’t have to look far to see them moving from their yards to the Gallops for their daily exercise on dedicated walkways. So, if you are a morning shopper then you are bound to spot one or two of our equine residents – just another reason why Newmarket is so special.
