Such is the popularity of Discover Newmarket’s tours to Shadwell Stud that one of the two dates has already sold out. It took just 24 hours for the tickets to be snapped up which means there is now just one opportunity to visit this incredible venue.
Discover Newmarket, the town’s official tour guide, offers visitors the chance to go behind the scenes to experience the world of horseracing. It’s a fantastic experience for dyed in the wool racing fans but also has appeal for anyone looking for a new experience.
The Shadwell Tours for 2019 take place on the 22nd May and the 26th June (sold out).
The full-day experience will include a visit to the yards of two trainers who have played a part in producing champion racehorses who have gone on to become part of Shadwell’s impressive stallion roster.
The first date will see visitors go behind the scenes at the yard of William Haggas, one of Newmarket’s biggest trainers to see what life is like at Somerville Lodge. You will be met by a member of the team and see the day’s third lot trotting before heading out to watch them exercise on Warren Hill. Visitors will then return to the stables for some refreshments.
The remainder of the morning will include time at Palace House, one of Newmarket’s top attractions, which is home to the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art. Take in an impressive collection of British Sporting Art which includes the work of Sir Alfred Munnings and George Stubbs.
Newmarket has several fantastic restaurants and eateries and the Shadwell Stud Tour includes a stop for lunch at the King’s Head in the nearby village of Dullingham. Visitors on the Tour will enjoy a sumptuous three-course lunch at a venue that prides itself on sourcing fresh, local ingredients and adding a modern take on classic cuisine.
The highlight of the day will be the exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Shadwell’s Nunnery Stud as well as a parade of their champion stallions. The property is home to the likes of Mukhadram, Haafhd, Nayef, Tasleet, Muhaarar and newcomer Poet’s Word, the only horse to defeat Cracksman in 2018.
Tom Pennington, Marketing and Nominations Manager for Shadwell Stud, commented:
“The Discover Newmarket tours offer a unique opportunity for the general public to gain behind the scenes access to a stud farm and that is why Shadwell is delighted to be hosting two tours again in 2019 following great success with the inaugural tours last year.
“It gives the team at Shadwell great satisfaction to be able to afford members of the public a chance to visit the stud and share with them their knowledge of the horse and the intricacies of everything connected with a stud farm.”
Megan Pollexfen, Discover Newmarket Manager, said:
“We are delighted that we will once again be able to visit the impressive facilities at Shadwell Stud this year. We received a fantastic response to these dates last year and are grateful to Shadwell for their continued support. Visitors coming on the Shadwell Tour experience in 2019 can look forward to an exceptional day out.”
