EXCELLENT Based on 480 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Kevin RVerified Home of horse racing a wonderful experience What an amazing day . We were met by Larry our guide for the day to find out it was just myself and my partner as all the others had postponed due to the heat we assume . First off we were taken up to the gallops and watched horses being galloped from a variety of stables. Larry knew all the stables and possibly the work riders . He is very knowledgeable and and gave as an over view of the gallops , how it worked and its history. He then took us on a tour to show where the Charlie Appleby stables were although we weren’t allowed access before heading to Tom Clovers herd where we met Tom and his wife Jackie who gave us. Guided tour and answered our questions. They were really hospitable. A quick refreshment break and then out to the National stud where we saw the great Stradivarius and a few others . Larry went through the whole process and explained the season and what happens if they stallions are shipped abroad for duty . Larry shared his own background which was amazing . We then returned to the museum for lunch before we visited the museum at our own pace before a horse racing simulation which was really fun and interesting. Couldn’t fault the day which was made more special by having Larry to ourselves.Posted on Tripadvisor Karen BVerified Wonderful Service by all staff Did a couple of Tours with Discover Newmarket. Thank You for being so accomodating ✨Posted on Tripadvisor David MVerified A fascinating insight into racing My friend and I had a thoroughly entertaining and stimulating Race Day Tour of Newmarket on Saturday with Discover Newmarket. We started on the gallops - getting insights as to how horses are trained and primed for their races and spotting horses trained by Michael Bell, William Knight and William Haggas - and following breakfast were taken to the National Stud, where we had a thorough tour of the facilities and met a number of the equine residents. These included mares (and their foals), plus the brilliant Stradivarius and Attraction; plus we got up close to Lord Windermere and The Tin Man, who are surprisingly firm friends and enjoy their Polos! We also received fascinating insights at the beutiful July Course itself, with visits to the paddock and weighing room (where we met the Clerk of the Scales), and gained a deeper understanding of the security measures that are in place to ensure that the right horse ends up in the right place/race. Our grateful thanks to Sandie for being a helpful, eloquent and knowledgable guide. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.Posted on Tripadvisor BecVerified Newmarket Experience Tour Absolutely brilliant day, highly recommend, Larry our tour guide was really good, very knowledgable and friendly.Posted on Tripadvisor KarenMSuffolkVerified Excellent Tour It was an excellent tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour was brilliant and as always, started with the history of the area, a drive out on to the gallops and snippets of information from the tour guide. As always, I learnt something new on this part of the tour! We then visited Beech House Stud, home of the Shadwell stallions. The whole team at Beech House were so very friendly and full of information. Each stallion - Mohaather, Mostahdaf and Baaeed was paraded for us. We were allowed to take as many photos as we wanted. Then at the very end, we were asked if we would like to have our photos individually taken with Baaeed. I'm sure at this stage we all thought we'd misheard, but no, we hadn't. Several of us posed with the lovely horse and he was so chilled, exceptional. Thank you. We were then allowed to view the stallion boxes and history associated, before being taken to the covering shed and being shown the rest of the yard. So much history at Beech House Stud. It was wonderful to see the "centre" where there was lots of history on show and tributes to former champions, including Nashwan and Unfuwain. We were also allowed to view the grave of St Paddy who is buried there. We then returned to Heath Court Hotel for lunch /afternoon tea. Another excellent tour from Discover Newmarket. Don't hesitate to use them, you get unbelievable access to incredible horses and historic locations.Posted on Tripadvisor Keith BVerified Great frankel day with Lady Jane Cecil and Larry , we would highly recommend this tour ‘ fantastic’ Brilliant full day , very interesting and informativePosted on Tripadvisor Alan AVerified Best experience of my life!!
