This year Love Newmarket is pleased to bring back the annual Christmas lights switch on which will happen at 7 pm on Friday 19th November. The event kicks off at the Clock Tower from 5 pm where multi-award-winning magician and a member of the prestigious Magic Circle, Jez Bond, will play host to the evening’s proceedings. Many people will remember Jez for his amazing performance on Britain’s Got Talent last year and we can’t wait to see him in action, here in Newmarket.
In addition, there will be live music, Christmas carols and a fairground along the high street as well as an appearance by Elsa with her igloo from Frozen – so plenty of selfie moments! Many of our best loved shops will be staying open so you can enjoy some Christmas shopping and of course our cafes, restaurants and takeaways will be on hand to serve you up some festive treats.
In previous years, Newmarket has welcomed a celebrity to help switch on the lights, but this year they looked towards the community to find local heroes who have done brilliant work during the last year. Through a Facebook campaign a number of local residents were nominated. After the vote closed , Ben Blowes and Tamara McAuley were announced as the winners and will undertake the coveted task of switching on Newmarket’s lights for 2021.
So, make a note in your diaries and kick start your Christmas in Newmarket with the big switch on. See you there!
