Competition Launched to Find Promotional Name for Ipswich to Cambridge Line

12/02/2026

Greater Anglia and the Ipswich to Cambridge Community Rail Partnership (CRP) are launching a competition to find a promotional name for the Ipswich to Cambridge line.

The CRP was set up in Autumn 2024 to help develop and promote rail services along this key regional rail corridor, helping to align the evolution of services in line with local needs. In recent months, a CRP officer and a Chair have been appointed and key priorities agreed. Now, as part of the next stage of the CRP’s development, this competition is being run to choose a promotional name which will help raise and maintain the profile of this important rail route in the years ahead.

From the colleges in Cambridge to the marina at Ipswich, from the horseracing at Newmarket to the history of Bury St. Edmunds, and with stunning views of the countryside along the way, it’s a diverse, vibrant and beautiful area. What name best reflects this? It’s over to you!

Either click here or scan the QR code below to vote for one of our suggestions or to make your own. You could even win a free trip for 4 on the line courtesy of Greater Anglia. The competition closes on Thursday 12 March 2026. We look forward to hearing from you.

The chosen name will help the Community Rail Partnership forge closer links between local communities and their railway. We want to promote the use of the railway for work, education, leisure, retail and tourism, to help communities make their station an attractive asset in their area, and to promote the locations along the line.

Our new CRP officer is already in touch with many local groups and organisations along the line and the list is expanding all the time. We’re looking to work with local communities to identify and deliver activities which can achieve these aims. This can include developing promotional materials, supporting local events and improving station facilities. It can involve all kinds of local groups, including arts groups, history groups or sports groups. The key is the local community.

But first things first – we’re looking for an appropriate name to help promote the line and you can play your part in helping us choose that name.

As well as entering via the QR code or link, entrants can email suggestions to IPSCBGName@greateranglia.co.uk. Please include your suggested promotional name and your contact details including your name and email address. As a reminder, the deadline for entries is Thursday 12 March 2026.

Tracey Harding, Chair of the Ipswich to Cambridge CRP said:

“As part of our plans to build awareness of the Ipswich to Cambridge line and the attractive locations it serves, as well as support the work of our new CRP, we’re looking for a name that captures the essence of the area. We know reinforcing our local links with an appropriate name will help us strengthen ties with the local community and increase passenger numbers.”

Jonathan Denby, Head of Corporate Affairs, Greater Anglia, said:

“We’re pleased to launch this competition with the Ipswich to Cambridge CRP as part of our joint plans to help promote and develop train services along this key regional route. A promotional name for the line will help us raise its profile and encourage more people to take the train, visit the exciting places along it, and support the local economy. We look forward to receiving people’s suggestions, choosing an appropriate name for the CRP and ensuring the Ipswich to Cambridge line continues to thrive in the years ahead.”
