The Newmarket Family Treasure Hunt is a new initiative aimed at encouraging families to spend some time together outdoors, potentially winning a prize for their efforts. It’s free to enter and will take place from 22 October – 7 November.
The route of the treasure hunt will take participants around the streets of Newmarket, challenging them to solve questions and puzzles in the quickest time possible. Prizes provided by local businesses will be given to those teams that answer the most questions correctly and complete the course the fastest. There will also be random ‘spot’ prizes allocated, meaning that anyone taking part could walk away with something.
Ian Jackson, Sports Partnership Manager at the Forest Heath Sports Partnership, is responsible for organising the event on behalf of a range of partners. He explains:
“I’m really looking forward to seeing if any team can answer all of the questions correctly and how long it takes them to complete the course. It would also be great to think that families will get outside during the two weeks the event is on, get active and perhaps even see parts of the town they never knew existed.”
Funders of the Treasure Hunt include Newmarket Town Council, West Suffolk Council, Orbit Housing and Godolphin. Love Newmarket is promoting the event and helping to raise its profile locally and beyond. Of the support Jackson says:
“It’s great to have so many organisations behind this initiative and we’ve set an ambitious target of encouraging 1,000 to take part. I’m also pleased by the support we’ve had from prize sponsors, including Hughes and Discover Newmarket. If any other local businesses would like to offer prizes to those families taking part they can contact me at forestheathssp@gmail.com.”
Newmarket Family Treasure Hunt packs will be available free of charge from selected schools and retail outlets from Wednesday 20 October. So, keep an eye on our socials for more updates and information.
