To mark 350 years of making history in our fantastic town, a special edition Newmarket Monopoly will be available for pre-sale at the QIPCO Guineas Festival this weekend. The game will celebrate our rich horseracing history and will put you in the shoes of one of the towns many trainers.
The property squares will be replaced with Newmarket’s most famous training establishments, and the tokens will be replaced with horses (usually houses) and stallions (usually hotels). The utility squares will instead become ‘Gibson Saddlers’ and ‘The British Racing School’, and the railway squares will be replaced with some of Newmarket’s landmark locations: Palace House, Newmarket Racecourses, Tattersalls and Jockey Club Estates.
And to keep things completely authentic, all currency exchanged within the game will be in Guineas to keep in sync with the traditional Tattersalls sales.
Discover Newmarket are also proud to be included within the bespoke Chance and Community Chest cards which will include bonuses such as:
“You win a Discover Newmarket tour of the National Stud collect G100”
“You win a Golding’s voucher for the Best Dressed competition at the Newmarket July Festival pick up G100”
Or maybe something a little less welcome:
“The British Horseracing Authority Stewards have found you guilty of use of the whip above the permitted level. Go to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect G200.”
John Berry, Mayor of Newmarket says, “The history of Newmarket is the history of the sport which we love. As Monopoly is a Great British icon and a such big part of all our yesterdays, I think that Bespoke Newmarket Monopoly is a wonderful way of celebrating Newmarket’s 350-year milestone. Like Newmarket, it will be a treasure to cherish.”
There will be a giant version of the Newmarket Monopoly Board on show at the QIPCO Guineas Festival on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May in the NHRM Rowley Mile shop, situated on the ground floor of the Millennium Grandstand, next to the Customer Relations & Hospitality Entrance, opposite the Parade Ring, where racegoers will be able to visualise the location of those listed.
The board will be available for reservation this weekend, so make sure you head over to the Rowley Mile Racecourse to secure your edition!
