Welcome Tours for the First 100 New Town Residents

24/03/2026

The tourism body Discover Newmarket is launching a new initiative with Newmarket Racecourses, extending a warm welcome to the first 100 new residents to move into the town this spring by offering an all-access, behind the scenes tour of the town’s historic racing landmarks. These newly devised tours will be launched in conjunction with local Estate Agents during the last week of March 2026, and will be available to the first 100 new residents who buy or rent a property in the town. After the first 100, other newcomers will still be able to find out more about the town they have chosen to move into by having the chance to book onto a newly devised Welcome Tour at the reduced rate of just £10 per person.

Tracey Harding, CEO of Discover Newmarket says:  “We want to ensure that more newcomers and local residents understand just how special Newmarket is, and demonstrate that racing is accessible to all.  In providing new residents the chance to learn how the industry operates, we hope to help foster engagement, understanding and pride in place in our unique town”.

Discover Newmarket has designed a ‘Welcome Card’ that will be distributed through local Estate Agents to all new homeowners (both sales and rentals). The card includes a QR code offering the first 100 recipients a complimentary guided tour. This expert-led tour will drive past iconic landmarks and key racing establishments, sharing insights into the significance of the Gallops, the National Stud, the National Horseracing Museum, Tattersalls and the Jockey Club Rooms. Morning coffee at the Heath Court Hotel will be followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the racecourses, with access to areas not normally open to the public, such as the Parade Ring. With their new-found knowledge, residents will be left to enjoy an afternoon at the races at their leisure.

Once the complimentary places have been allocated, newcomers (and indeed any Newmarket resident) will be able to book onto a series of Welcome Tours throughout the year at a cost of £10 per person. These tours will include the one-hour drive-by experience, with the intention of encouraging residents to explore further tours and deepen their connection with the town’s racing heritage.

Discover Newmarket will be encouraging local businesses to consider incorporating the Welcome Tour into staff induction programmes, helping employees appreciate why Newmarket is recognised as the British home of horseracing, and to take pride in their workplace and community.
