Discover Newmarket, the tourism hub and official tour guide for the Home of Horseracing has extended its tours to Tattersalls during the October Yearling Book 1 Sale this October, adding an additional date, on the 11 October to its tour roster due to popular demand.
The Tattersalls Tours on offer by Discover Newmarket are designed to immerse members of the public into the world of Thoroughbred bloodstock sales and the world of horses, through exclusive and world-class behind-the-scenes tours. Last year tour attendees got to witness something truly spectacular as dual-Group 1 winner Marsha sold for a record 6 million guineas at Tattersalls’ December Mare Sales, and this October the champions of the future will go on sale during the four books of the Yearling Sale. Perhaps visitors might see the next record-breaking sale first-hand through a Discover Newmarket tour.
Jason Singh, Tattersalls Marketing Manager, had this to say about the exciting few days on offer this October,
“The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 is Europe’s premier yearling sale and a source of some of the finest bloodstock in the world. Seven Derby winners have passed through the ring this millennia, and each year the bloodstock world descends on Newmarket in search of the next champion racehorse. Tattersalls is open to the public during sales and we are delighted to welcome the Discover Newmarket team and anyone on the tour to experience the excitement of the sales and the unrivalled theatre.”
With Tattersalls attracting the most influential owners and industry figures from all over the world, the atmosphere on offer is unlike any other.
‘We are extremely excited to be offering the general public additional dates to go behind the scenes at Tattersalls this Autumn. Tattersalls have been tremendously supportive as a Stakeholder of Discover Newmarket and we are delighted that by working together we can offer an unprecedent and unrivalled experience at Europe’s leading yearling sale,” Megan Pollexfen, Discover Newmarket Manager, said of the upcoming Tattersalls Tour dates.
Not only will members of the public get to see the famous Tattersalls sales, they will travel to Newmarket Gallops where they will witness some of the 3,000 racehorses in training in the town exercising. After this, the tour will continue to a leading Newmarket trainer’s yard where visitors can see first-hand the facilities and training that goes into moulding a champion. After this the tour takes visitors to the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House to discover the history and heritage of horseracing and Newmarket, see depictions of racing and other sports throughout the ages, as well as get up close to some former racehorses.
After lunch the tour continues to the main event at Tattersalls, where the guide will take guests behind-the-scenes and explain what bloodstock agents and buyers are looking for when picking a horse to bid on. Then visitors will sit beside the famous Tattersalls sales ring, immersing themselves in the excitement and tension as horses are bid on for thousands of Guineas.
Recent results will tell you that the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale is the source for future champions with the likes of two-year-olds Fairyland and Phoenix of Spain both winning graded races in the last week. Both horses were purchased during Book 1 last year.
