Montaz recognised among The Good Food Guide’s favourite Indian restaurants

Newmarket’s Montaz has been featured in The Good Food Guide’s selection of its favourite Indian restaurants across Britain, recognising the restaurant’s creative cooking and warm hospitality.

The family-run restaurant on Old Station Road serves up creative, beautifully spiced dishes, from regional favourites to seriously slow-cooked signatures. Its inclusion puts a Newmarket business alongside celebrated Indian restaurants from across the country.

Regional flavours with a modern touch

Montaz’s menu combines traditional recipes with contemporary cooking, offering plenty for diners who enjoy familiar favourites or want to try something different.

Start with Jerusalem artichoke chat, combining crispy artichoke and potato with sweet yoghurt, tamarind, sev and pomegranate. Alternatively, the ox cheek samosa brings slow-roasted, pulled beef to a classic starter.

Among the regional mains, Old Delhi Butter Chicken pairs chicken tikka with a creamy tomato sauce flavoured with fenugreek, cardamom and honey. Beef Chettinad offers slow-cooked beef with grated coconut and Kashmiri chilli, while Goan fish curry combines coconut milk, ginger, garlic, chilli and mustard.

Signatures worth taking your time over

The Montaz Signature selection includes ox cheek cooked for 12 hours, served with aloo bhurta, wilted spinach and tomato kachumbar. There’s also Nalli Gosht, a lamb shank with green cardamom and a rose-petal-flavoured onion sauce.

From the tandoor, diners can choose dishes including Lucknowi lamb chops with royal cumin and aromatic spices, or salmon with dill, honey, mustard and cucumber raita.

Vegetarian options include paneer makhani, featuring tandoori-grilled paneer in a creamy tomato and butter sauce with roasted cashew nuts.

A warm Newmarket welcome

The Good Food Guide’s recognition extends beyond the food, with Montaz receiving a “Very Good” rating for warmth.

Whether you’re planning dinner with friends, celebrating an occasion or rounding off a visit to Newmarket, it’s a chance to explore a restaurant earning national attention.

Congratulations to the Montaz team on their inclusion.
