On the 16th and 17th September 2017, the 32Red Newmarket Open Weekend returns to our fantastic town. During this brilliant event the notoriously secretive horseracing industry opens its doors to the pubic, allowing you to go behind the scenes!
Over the course of the weekend there are so many opportunities to access otherwise closed-off areas of the town, including the Gallops, British Racing School, Newmarket Equine Hospital, Tattersalls, the Jockey Club Rooms and not forgetting open access to some of Newmarket’s famous trainers’ yards!
In addition to all the racing attractions, all you foodies out there can also enjoy the brilliant NOW Food & Drink Festival which takes place right in the centre of town and includes over 50 bespoke stalls!
Discover Newmarket is proud to be part of Newmarket Open Weekend, operating our amazing National Stud tours.
In addition to this, our expert tour guides will be accompanying you on the shuttle buses between trainers’ yards on Sunday offering interesting facts, insights and history about the town’s landmarks along the way.
We will be running our fantastic National Stud Tour throughout both days at Newmarket Open Weekend, starting at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm. Let our expert guide take you on a fascinating tour of the only commercial thoroughbred stud farm in the country to allow the public behind the scenes.
This 90-minute tour will introduce you to the history of the Stud and offers an insight into the workings of a thoroughbred farm. Visit the stallion unit, see mares and foals, yearlings and stallions in their paddocks, all while taking in the beautiful countryside setting.
Sound like hungry work? No problem, the National Stud also has an on-site coffee shop where you can enjoy tea, coffee, freshly made sandwiches or delicious cakes.
