In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Newmarket’s Town Council has organised a splendid, three day party and everyone is invited! In addition to the events the council has created a Jubilee flower bed in the Memorial Gardens with colourful flowers fit for a Jubilee celebration. Purple, red and yellow gold flowers have been chosen to represent the Queen’s racing colours. With Newmarket’s strong royal connections, going back centuries, the town is looking forward to marking this momentous occasion. Here is the full line-up:
Thursday 2nd June – Lighting of the Beacon and Jubilee Tea Dance
The celebrations begin at 2 pm where our Town Crier will undertake the Proclamation at the Bill Tutte Memorial announcing the lighting of the beacon later that evening. The Town Council will be hosting a special Jubilee Tea Dance to honour the Queen. The council extends a warm invitation to join the party in the Memorial Hall. Come and dance the afternoon away to the sounds of the Big Band classics as well as enjoy some delicious cakes and refreshments.
At 9.15 pm residents are invited to assemble at The Severals as the town joins the nation in lighting a beacon. A Piper will first play Diu Regnare, a unique tune especially written for this historic Jubilee, and then at 9.45pm Newmarket’s Beacon will be lit. Newmarket Community Choir will sing ‘Song for the Commonwealth,’ a song especially written for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This is followed by the opportunity to taste the delicious Jubilee Beacon Tart with ingredients representing all 4 nations of the UK.
