Easter is a lovely time of year with the expectation of warmer weather and lots of things to do. Here’s our local round up of What’s On over the bank holiday weekend in and around Newmarket.

National Horseracing Museum – 12th to 18th April
Enjoy some traditional family fun at the Museum with their Chick Chase Trail. Explore the museum galleries, find the ten hidden Easter chicks and spell the name of a racecourse to win a prize! Trail included in the admission price and remember children are free! Click here for more information.
Chippenham Park – Friday 15th April
The Park’s annual Easter Egg Hunt is back, running between 10 am and 4 pm. Explore these beautiful gardens and search high and low to find those eggs which have been carefully hidden. This is a ticketed event with tickets available online or on the day. Click here to purchase tickets.
On the Trail of Dick Francis – Saturday 16th April
Away from the Easter theme, Discover Newmarket is running their literary tour, based on the crime novels by Dick and Francis Felix. Join us on this very special guided tour, via bus and foot, around the historic town. See many of the places that crime novelist and former steeplechase champion, Francis, featured in his realistic plots based in and around Newmarket. Your tour ends with a cream tea at the Bedford Lodge Hotel which as avid fans will know, was a popular place for some of the characters to stay. Click here to book.
Burwell Museum – Sunday 17th and Monday 18th April
After their winter break, this wonderful Museum, portraying Fen life in a series of re-created scenes and exhibitions, re-opens at Easter with a host of activities. Events include an Easter Egg Hunt around the museum grounds, best Easter Bonnet competition with winners being judged via socials as well as Windmill Tours. Find out more here.

In celebration of National Sausage Week and Newmarket’s annual Sausage Festival on Saturday 1st November, some of our wonderful cafes and restaurants will be serving specially created sausage dishes on their menus during the preceding week (Monday 27th October to Sunday 2nd November).
The National Stud in conjunction with Sam Sangster Bloodstock are delighted to announce that the Prix Jacques le Marois [Gr.1] winner, Diego Velazquez, is retired and set to take up stud duties in 2026.
To celebrate Newmarket’s long association with the Newmarket sausage, the hometown of British horse racing will be staging its 4th annual Sausage Festival on Saturday 1st November from 10am to 2pm.
