To celebrate Newmarket’s long association with the Newmarket sausage, the hometown of British horse racing will be staging its 4th annual Sausage Festival on Saturday 1st November from 10am to 2pm. Running alongside the Saturday Market, there will be opportunities to sample award-winning Newmarket sausages participate in some fun sausage-themed activities for all the family, and even enter a sausage dog competition.

The Festival is once again being supported by both types of the celebrated Newmarket Sausage – Musk’s and Powters. As well as free tastings, there will be the opportunity to sample a tasty sausage casserole, courtesy of the chefs at the Heath Court Hotel a recipe card to take home and a chance to win all the ingredients on the free tombola.

For the first time, Mojo who won the title of Sausage Dog Star at the National Horseracing Museum’s Easter Pawty event this year, is the official mascot of the Sausage Dog competition. Mojo will be adding to the excitement on social media in the run up to the Festival and judging the Best Sausage Dog competition 2026 at 11am. Owners are encouraged to bring their sausage dog to be in with a chance of winning a goody bag of prizes. Other highlights returning to the Festival include a ‘Whack a Sausage’ game which will provide fun for all the family and the popular sausage pan race, a fiercely competitive race aimed at younger visitors, presided over by the Festival’s character, Mr Sausage himself.
Local cafes and restaurants will also be supporting the Festival during the preceding week, adding specially created sausage dishes to their menus. This means that avid sausage fans will be able to dine out on a different sausage dish every day of the week. For those who enjoy a tipple with their sausages, Newmarket’s independent wine merchants, Corney and Barrow has selected two wines that perfectly pair with sausage dishes – both available in store at a discounted price during the Festival week.
