The Gallops, consist of 2,500 acres of managed training grounds which extends to both ends of town and are linked by an extensive system of horsewalks. The turf on the Heath has been protected and nurtured for centuries, avoided being ploughed up during the wars and kept free of railway lines and new roads. These grounds really are something special and their inclines make for some breathtaking views. Despite their great importance, the public are granted full rights to use the Gallops for dog walking and exercise, as long as it is after 1 pm.
