Visitors taking a tour with Discover Newmarket will be able to explore the home of horseracing in style thanks to the tourism organisation’s acquisition of a London taxi.
The iconic black cab will be easy to spot, not just as an unfamiliar sight on Newmarket’s streets, but for its smart new livery. It is emblazoned with Discover Newmarket’s distinctive logo of a rearing horse as well as an eye-catching image of four inquistive thoroughbreds.
The stylish new runabout can be booked for private tours, with luxurious touches such as copies of the Racing Post and a glass of champagne to toast the start of your guided experience. The ex-Hackney Carriage is now available to book as a private option across several of Discover Newmarket’s tours including their Race Day Tour. This very special day at the races begins with a visit to the famous gallops to see the horses exercising, the National Stud and a behind-the-scenes tour of the racecourse, before an exciting afternoon of sporting action. Prices are £110 per person (or £145 per person across the July Festival), including a Buck’s Fizz brunch and Premier race ticket with an additional one-off fee of £50 for the private use of the cab.
Other tours that can be booked as a private experience, include the half day Newmarket Experience (£65) and full day Ultimate Newmarket Experience (£95). Plus, there are options for you to be picked up from your accommodation, if you are planning to stay in the area.
The London taxi was kindly donated to Discover Newmarket by Newmarket Racehorse Transport and sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld, a key stakeholder of the organisation.
The popularity of private tours soared during Covid, not only for safety reasons but for those who liked the idea of exclusivity and being able to choose the date and time of their tour. With the acquisition of the London Black Cab, Discover Newmarket is looking forward to being able to take their guided tours provision to a whole new level.
