Join experienced tutor and well-known equine artist Nichola Eddery for a drawing day inspired by the work of Stubbs, at the National Horseracing Museum.
2024 marks the 300th anniversary of Stubb’s birth. This workshop is part of a programme of events by the National Horseracing Museum, celebrating the work of George Stubbs this year.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists, you will enjoy mastering Nichola’s step-by-step approach to drawing the horse from the incredible paintings by Stubbs.
The day will involve learning the fundamental principles of drawing: line, shape, proportion, perspective, light theory, value, and shading. In the morning, you will learn the envelope and block-in stages to capture proportion, likeness and movement. After lunch, you will learn about light theory and how to capture the horse’s anatomical structure through shading. This intense masterclass will help you understand these concepts and enable you to achieve a developed horse drawing whilst capturing Stubbs’ expressive style.
All materials provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks.
