Newmarket High Street will be closed between 3pm and 11pm to make way for all of the fantastic festivities a the Newmarket Christmas Lights Switch-On which include pantomimes, fairground rides, live music and of course, the switch on itself, performed by Mayor Andy Drummond and Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton!
Here’s a run down of how the Newmarket Christmas Lights Switch-On will unfold…
It all starts with three fantastic pantomimes at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm at the Memorial Hall. This is the perfect way to kick off the proceedings, with each pantomime portraying a different story in a fun and engaging performance from professional entertainers! Each show lasts 30 minutes offering an engaging and fun-packed way to get excited about the evening ahead!
At 7pm it is Time for the Switch-On which will take place on the Big Stage, located at the Bill Tutte Memorial at the top of the High Street. We are extremely excited tell you that Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton will be flicking the switch and lighting up our beautiful town!
Once Antony has made our town sparkle for Christmas, there will also be a chance for autographs and photos with the star so make sure you don’t miss this opportunity to take away a memento of this special event!
From 7:20pm-9pm, there will be live music on the Big Stage from a number of fantastic local acts, including Thomas Teago, West Suffolk College band, NOMADS, Newmarket Air Cadets and the UK’s leading Ed Sheeran tribute act!
From 6pm-8pm there will be fairground rides and stalls across the entire length of the High Street! These rides and stalls will offer fun and excitement for all ages and will keep the excitement going under the twinkle of the town’s magical Christmas lights.
While all the fun and excitement is going on, there will be late night shopping in Newmarket between 5pm and 8pm, including the Guineas Shopping Centre. So, in between all the excitement, you can make a start on your Christmas Shopping – or just take a break for some retail therapy!
On top of all this there will be loads of great street entertainment to keep you amused! Throughout the evening, there will be a children’s magic entertainer at the Bill Tutte Memorial, as well as a whole host of characters walking the streets, including Santa Claus, an Elf, an Ice maiden, an Angel and more!
