January is here and Christmas seems but a distant memory, so now’s the time to banish those blues and get out and about in the fresh air to explore.
Whilst it may be tempting to stay cosy inside, the colder weather can bring some amazing sunrises, clear blue skies and frosty white views, there’s never a better time to wrap up warm and enjoy the beautiful Suffolk countryside.
We think the Three Churches Walk, is the perfect way to spend a few hours exploring the area. This walk is around 5 and a half miles, and is ideal for those who are wanting to bring along their dogs too!
This route can have you starting at either the church in Dalham, Moulton or Gazeley, depending on your preference, but we’d recommend starting your journey at Moulton, grabbing yourself a delicious breakfast treat from the New Moulton Stores, before heading towards St Peter’s Church, Moulton.
From here, you’ll head towards the River Kennett, where you’ll cross with the church in sight. You’ll then make your way south, following the river walking towards St Mary’s church, Dalham. Here you’ll find this delightful church in the foreground of Dalham Hall estate, currently owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also owns Darley Stud and founder of Godolphin.
You’ll then make your way towards Gazeley following the woodland, before heading north, east towards the village. You’ll find All Saints Church just off of the main high street, in the centre of Gazeley. Making your way through the grounds of the church, you’ll follow the footpath signs through the grand trees at the back of the church yard, where you’ll head back towards Moulton, past Gazeley Stud.
Why not finish your walk with a warming meal and your favourite tipple, in The Packhorse Inn, just next to the Moulton Packhorse Bridge. This quintessential rural pub, is the perfect place to reside after a lovely weekend walk. Looking to stay longer? Why not take a look at one of their 16 rooms, ready to help deliver a restful nights sleep, even for four-legged friends too!
Alternatively, book yourself into the Moulton Lawn House which boasts four spacious double rooms including a Jacuzzi bath. Just perfect for relaxing those tired limbs after a day’s walking.
