From royalty to the hard-working groom, sizzling Newmarket Sausages are every race-goer’s favourite, and to mark the long-tradition of this award-winning street food, the annual Newmarket Sausage Festival returns for the second year on Saturday 4 November. The main events take place from 10am-2pm in the Market Square, running alongside the weekly, Saturday market, with opportunities to sample award-winning Newmarket Sausages as well as participate in some fun themed activities and competitions for all the family to enjoy.
In a tempting taster to the main event, from Saturday 28 October, a number of local restaurants and cafés will be adding a sausage dish to their main menus to help celebrate the much-loved Suffolk specialty. Visitors to Newmarket during the week leading-up to the Festival will be able to follow a ‘Sausage Safari’ sampling a variety of specially created dishes across the town’s eateries – there’s enough variety for aficionados to eat a different sausage every day.

On Saturday 4 November, the main Newmarket Sausage Festival kicks off at 10am with warming winter food and drink from a selection of sausage themed stalls, with plenty of free samples from award-winning suppliers, activities to try, recipe ideas to take home and tasty treats to tickle the tastebuds. Supported by both types of Newmarket Sausage – Musk’s (available at Eric Tennant Butchers) and Powters – and decide which you prefer best. Sample the tasty sausage casserole courtesy of the chefs at the Heath Court Hotel and then pick up a recipe card to re-create the dish at home with all the ingredients being available to purchase from the Market or try and win one of 10 bags of ingredients up for grabs in the free tombola.

This year’s Festival sees the return of the hugely popular sausage pan race, a fiercely competitive race among children; competitors will go under starter’s orders by the Festival’s favourite themed character, Mr Sausage himself.
The event organised by Discover Newmarket and West Suffolk Markets is kindly sponsored by Edmondson Hall and supported by Powters, Musks and Eric Tennants.
